Bernstein leads Top Fuel qualifying

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Brandon Bernstein led Top Fuel qualifying Friday night in the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals with a 3.859-second run at 312.50 mph at Bristol Dragway.

Antron Brown was second at 3.864 at 317.12, followed by defending series champion Larry Dixon at 3.864 at 310.13. Spencer Massey, coming off consecutive victories, was third at 3.866 at 321.73.

Bob Tasca (Funny Car) and Mike Edwards (Pro Stock) also topped their divisions.

Tasca powered his Ford Mustang to a run of 4.107 at 308.21. Fellow Mustang driver Robert Hight has second at 4.110 at 301.33, and local favorite Matt Hagan third at 4.112 at 303.50 in a Dodge Charger.

Edwards paced the Pro Stock lineup with 6.679-second run at 206.04 in a Pontiac GXP.
