OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Chris Gregoire is in Europe for a weeklong trade mission to tout Washington businesses.

Gregoire arrived in Spain on Friday for a meeting with executives of Dragados. That company’s U.S.-based subsidiary was selected to build the tunnel to replace Seattle’s Alaskan Way Viaduct. Gregoire says she wanted a first-hand look at a project Dragados recently completed in Madrid.

She also has meetings with renewable energy firms and wants to encourage them to locate or expand in Washington. The governor will later travel to France to attend the Paris Air Show and support the state’s aerospace industry.

Gregoire says the trip is about Washington’s economic recovery and increasing the state’s exports to ensure job growth.
