BETHESDA, Md. (AP) — Rory McIlroy is on the course in the third round of the U.S. Open.

In search of his first major championship, McIlory took a six-stroke lead over Y.E. Yang into Saturday’s play after shooting 11-under 131 over the first two days, an Open record at the halfway point.

McIlroy’s lead tied a record for the biggest advantage after 36 holes, but there were some good scores to be had in the third round for those hoping to rally at Congressional.

Teeing off early, Webb Simpson shot 5-under 66 to get to 1 under for the tournament.

Meanwhile, Fredrik Jacobson was 5 under through 10 holes to move to 4 under. That was one shot ahead of Jason Day, Russell Henley, Henrik Stenson and Zach Johnson, who had combined for 11 birdies early in their round.
