Letter: Fear the motivation of GOP candidates
Saturday, June 18, 2011
I watched the Republican presidential candidate debate, and it held no surprises. Every one of the candidates is a right-wing, anti-gay, anti-abortion religious bigot with extreme, enthusiastic motivations in allowing the church and state to get married and share the same bedroom while at the same time denying the same privilege to same-sex couples. They all support violating the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which guarantees equality for all by intentionally permitting church dogma to dominate legislation.
The Defense of Marriage Act violates the Constitution by sexually discriminating against same-sex marriages, and any candidate who supports these unconstitutional violations therefore cannot be trusted with the office of the presidency.
There are 200 million atheists in this country who do not want their lives controlled by religious fanaticism. Beware putting the church in charge of our country.
