NEW YORK (AP) — The CONCACAF Gold Cup Organizing Committee said Mexico will be allowed to replace five players who were dropped from the Gold Cup squad after testing positive for the banned substance clenbuterol.

Mexico will be allowed to replace the players with up to five other players for the remainder of the competition.

The players involved are defenders Francisco Rodriguez and Edgar Duenas, goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, and midfielders Christian Bermudez and Antonio Naelson.

The five players and the Mexican federation are blaming the positive tests on contaminated meat.

Mexico beat Guatemala 2-1 in Gold Cup quarterfinals on Saturday. Mexico will play Honduras in the semifinals on Wednesday in Houston.
