Letter: Can we really trust elected officials?

The Columbian

The Columbian had a good story on June 16, “Herrera Beutler: Vote on light rail,” that raises interesting questions about who is in charge — the politicians or the taxpayers.

Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt is quoted as saying, ““I’m at a loss at this point in understanding why the congresswoman appears to be saying she doesn’t respect the locally elected officials and their representation of the people who have put them in office.” The mayor needs to remember that only a short time ago he was shouting, “no tolls, no tolls.” Oh, now that he’s elected? He’s in support of tolls. And now he wonders why the voters don’t trust the elected officials? How’s his memory?
