Vancouver’s School of Piano Technology for the Blind, dubbed the “Piano Hospital,” has received a $3,000 grant from the Community Foundation to support its curriculum expansion.

The award was made at the school’s May 26 board meeting.

The grant will purchase new pianos that will be used to teach students all phases of work required to prepare them for sale. The award raises cumulative foundation support for the school past $60,000.

Providing specialized training to blind and visually impaired persons, the school has attracted students from 36 states and 14 countries to Vancouver for its program of empowerment and self-sufficiency.

The school is at 2510 E. Evergreen Blvd.

Since its inception in 1984, the Community Foundation has distributed more than $97 million to local causes.
