BRUSSELS (AP) — A European Union official says that a deal reached between the Greek government and its international debt inspectors contains an additional 3.8 billion ($5.4 billion) in spending cuts.

The official said early Friday that experts from the EU and the International Monetary Fund found that the new austerity package to be voted on in parliament next week actually fell short off the promised 28 billion in savings. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity because the cuts have not yet been announced.

The EU and IMF officials, who regularly check on the implementation of Greece’s 110 billion bailout package, reached a deal on the spending cuts, economic reforms and privatizations late Thursday.

Getting the package through parliament is a precondition for Greece getting more aid.
