WASHINGTON (AP) — The House plans to vote Friday on competing measures on the U.S. military role in Libya — one to give President Barack Obama limited authority to continue the mission and the other to cut off funds for military hostilities.
Republicans and several Democrats are upset with Obama for failing to get congressional approval for the 3-month-old war as required by law. Obama has said he would welcome a resolution to authorize American participation in the NATO-led operation. But the House was expected to reject that resolution in a rebuke to the commander in chief.
Uncertain was the fate of the bill to cut off funds for military hostilities. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton appealed to House Democrats on Thursday to continue the mission.
