NEW YORK (AP) — Injured Mets third baseman David Wright has been cleared to resume workouts and could rejoin the team in three weeks.
The All-Star has been out since May 16 because of a stress fracture in his lower back. He will travel Friday to the Mets’ spring-training complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
General manager Sandy Alderson says it will take about a week for Wright to get in shape to swing a bat. Alderson spoke after New York’s 4-1 win over Oakland on Thursday.
Wright is hitting .226 with six home runs and 18 RBIs this season.
