In opposition to Bonneville Power Administration’s proposed routes for a 500-kilovolt grid in populated areas, Yale Valley residents find the currently proposed east alternative absolutely unacceptable, as it would cross many valley properties. Contrary to suggestions, we don’t have one residence every five miles. Our 4-mile-long valley is home to more than 500.
The lines will cause economic hardship and physical issues for many. Multiply that by the huge number on the entire length of the east alternative. Created last year to avoid populated areas, this alternative obviously was not moved far enough east. It impacts a densely populated scenic area. Another route called the grey line has been proposed by citizens’ groups. I find this the only acceptable route. It crosses unpopulated areas, through Department of Natural Resources and corporate-held timberlands. Enough said there.
BPA’s draft environmental impact statement will study four proposed lines, and I am greatly disturbed that the grey line is not one of them. This is unacceptable; it must be included.
Though it might be slightly more costly, it is a pittance compared to the profit BPA will make from the sale of power. If the grey line were used, we in the Yale Valley would remain happily undisturbed.
