PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A former Oregon man accused of murdering his wife concedes he felt increasingly frustrated with her and considered getting a divorce but says he didn’t kill Heather Dawn Mallory.

Under questioning Friday by a prosecutor in his Portland murder trial, 38-year-old Brian Cole denied that he lied to detectives or fabricated a story to cover anything up.

He claimed earlier that the last time he saw Mallory she was walking out of their Portland apartment with her purse in hand while their 3-year-old son watched from a couch.

The Oregonian says prosecutors contend Cole killed his wife in a fight at the apartment, then dumped her body outside Estacada.

Cole’s lawyer has argued there is no forensic evidence linking Cole to his wife’s body and that investigators zeroed in on him without investigating other potential suspects.
