Vancouver Port poised for growth
Friday, June 24, 2011
The Port of Vancouver’s Terminal 5, formerly host to Evergreen and Alcoa aluminum plants, is one of the last available heavy-industry-ready waterfront parcels on the West Coast. The port added seven miles of train tracks to the 218-acre site in 2010, and now is seeking tenants for the site. Already Keyera Energy employs 11 people there. Australian mining giant BHP Billiton has preliminary plans to hire 60 more after finishing the largest private construction project in the port’s history, a potash export center that could double the port’s annual cargo tonnage when it’s up and running in 2015.
