KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — Military recruiters say the slow pace of the economic recovery in southern Oregon is driving more enlistments in the Klamath Falls area.

The Herald and News reports that more college graduates are among those joining up.

One Navy recruiter told the Klamath Falls newspaper he enlisted a man who had a doctorate in engineering from Oregon State University but couldn’t find a job.

Military enlistees also are serving longer these days due to the uncertain economy.

Officials say many Klamath County enlistees in the Navy favor medical and aviation jobs.
