LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — Forecasters say the worst of the Columbia River flooding has passed.
Worries of serious flooding had increased this past month after levels at the massive river rose to heights unseen recently. A heavy snowpack and a wet spring had combined to feed the river. The heavy runoff had prompted officials to open dams upstream.
National Weather Service hydrologist Andy Bryant says river levels are going to slowly declined in the next few weeks.
The Daily News reports that the river at Longview had dropped 10 feet.
