Clark County youth soccer will benefit from a viewing party for today’s Portland Timbers match against FC Dallas.

The event at Dublin Down Irish Pub, 813 Main St. in downtown Vancouver is being organized by a members of the Timbers Army supporters group who live in Clark County.

The Timbers match at Dallas starts at 5:30 p.m. The USA vs. Mexico Gold Cup final kicks off at 6 p.m., and will be shown on some TVs, according to Dublin Down owner Brandon Smith.

Kelly Dews, who recently began organizing a Clark County branch of the Timbers Army through word of mouth and Facebook, said informal membership in the group called the Northern Alliance grew from 10 to 72 in a three-week period. Today’s viewing party is the group’s first event — and likely the first time many of them will be meeting each other.

“Our primary focus is supporting the Timbers,” Dews said. “Beyond that, we would like to support charities in Clark County.”

The 107th, the community support wing of the Timbers Army, is donating $1,000 to the Northern Alliance efforts to support youth soccer, Dublin Down’s Smith said. Timbers merchandise and tickets to a future home match will be raffled off during the viewing party to raise money for area youth soccer programs.
