Man with cane killed crossing Lacey street

LACEY, Wash. (AP) -- Police say a man with a cane, who was carrying a bag of groceries, was struck and killed trying to cross a street in Lacey.
Witnesses say the man had just left a bus Sunday afternoon and was heading to his apartment. As he crossed the street, Ruddell Road, he waved a northbound vehicle through and started to cross as he looked south. That's when he was hit by a second northbound vehicle. Police say the driver had no time to stop.
The pedestrian who appeared to be in his early 60s died at a hospital.
