ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — The body of a 27-year-old Oregon man who disappeared while floating down the North Umpqua River on May 20 has been recovered about a mile and a half downstream from where he was last seen.

The Douglas County sheriff’s office says Joshua Alexander of Idleyld Park was swimming with his girlfriend and two children when he decided to float downstream on an air mattress.

The sheriff’s office says the mattress overturned, tossing him into the water. He was not wearing a life jacket.

The body was recovered Monday after an area resident alerted the sheriff’s office.
