Old Evergreen Highway — More than 300 people turned out for Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center’s Family Field Trip on June 4. Activities included nature hikes, wetlands exploration, fish prints, trout dissection, soil studies and the ever-popular stream table where students become “stream engineers” building natural dams, channels and estuaries. Visitors got a taste of what thousands of local students experience each week during school field trips to the nature center. The day was a success in part because of the many volunteers who served as educators, greeted guests and assisted with learning stations.
