KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) — Benton County Coroner John Hansens has determined the true name of a man who drowned June 22 when a raft flipped at Two Rivers Park on the Columbia River at Finley, near the Tri-Cities.

Hansens says a cell phone found with his belongings was used to contact relatives and confirm the identity of Fernando Ramon Diego of Santa Eulalia, Guatemala. Hansens said he had been using false documents to work in the United States.

Friends said he had been sending money home to his wife and three children.

One friend told the Tri-City Herald that Diego didn’t know how to swim but was excited about getting on the water in a raft.
