West Vancouver — Patrick Meyer, a 2007 graduate of the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, won first place in the open finger-picking division of the Utah State Instrument Championships in early June in Ogden, Utah. Meyer, who is attending Evergreen State College in Olympia, won an Eastman 508 guitar and a paid entry into competition at the Winfield, Kan., International Finger Style Competition on Sept. 14-19. After studying music, performing arts and mathematics for two years at Evergreen State, he took six months away from school to concentrate on writing and performing guitar in the Vancouver-Portland area.
