OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) -- An Oregon man is facing an attempted murder charge after another man was attacked with a hammer in a Wal-Mart parking lot in the Portland area.
Clackamas County sheriff's deputies said they responded to a call Monday about a disturbance and found a 59-year-old man had been assaulted.
Deputies said Harry Anderson of Milwaukie was walking to his car after shopping when he was struck in the back of his head. Anderson said his attacker came around and hit him in the forehead before Anderson was able to block the next blow. He suffered minor injuries.
A witness intervened and the suspect fled on foot.
Deputies arrested 31-year-old Jonathan Edward Jones of Portland. A sheriff's spokesman said an attorney would be assigned at an arraignment set for Tuesday afternoon.
