SEATTLE (AP) — Two long-beaked dolphins that showed up last week in the waters near Olympia are just the latest in a number of visits by animals who don’t normally frequent Northwest waters.

The Seattle Times reports others include a 6-foot leopard shark caught in Bellingham Bay, two Bryde’s whales washing up dead in Puget Sound, and a brown booby bird that landed on a boat near Westport.

While climate change is suspected, no one knows for sure what brings some tropical residents so far north. Experts say some may ride currents or be driven to move by unknown disruptions.
