PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Portland-area man says he was stung on the elbow by a scorpion on a plane as he was flying from Seattle to Anchorage.

Jeff Ellis of West Linn told KPTV he was trying to sleep on a red-eye Alaska Airlines flight June 17 when he felt something inside his sleeve and tried to brush it away.

When he felt the crawling again he picked up the scorpion with a napkin. Then he felt burning like a bee sting. Ellis was checked by two doctors on board and medics on the ground.

The flight originated from Austin, Texas, where Alaska Airlines officials believe the scorpion got on board.

Ellis says the airline offered him 4,000 frequent flier miles and two round-trip tickets.
