OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Thurston County Auditor Kim Wyman says she is beginning a campaign to be Washington’s next secretary of state.

Wyman said Wednesday she wants to make elections more accurate and efficient. The Republican will be campaigning against Democratic state Sen. Jim Kastama for the chance to replace current Secretary of State Sam Reed, who announced this week that he is retiring.

Wyman has been the auditor in Thurston County since 2001, filling the vacancy left by Reed when he moved on to his current job.
