CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Corvallis, Ore., police say a tractor mowing 4-foot-tall grass ran over the head of a young woman lying in a field, critically injuring her.

Lt. Cord Wood said tractor driver Eric Dapp found Joanna Herron face down in the grass after he “felt a bump” as he mowed Wednesday. Police say the 23-year-old woman was face down, with the hood of her sweatshirt up and a music player beside her. Police say she may have been listening to music and not heard the tractor.

The Corvallis Gazette-Times reported she was listed in critical condition Wednesday evening in a Portland hospital with head injuries.

Wood says it appears one or both of the tractor’s left side tires hit her head.

Police say the tractor driver is not being investigated for any criminal charges because he could not have seen the woman in the tall grass.
