Help needed to finish trails

Volunteers are need to work on a pair of trails in the Columbia River Gorge.

The Washington Trails Association will have a work party on July 7 to complete a new route in the backcountry of Beacon Rock State Park. Three days of work will earn an annual Discover Pass.

On July 14, volunteers will work on Cape Horn trail in western Skamania County. Workers get a free Northwest Forest Pass for each day of service.

No experience is needed to volunteer. The trails association provides tools and instruction.

To register, call Ryan Ojerio at 360-722-2657, email him at ryan@wta.org or go online to www.wta.org/volunteer/trail-work-parties.

Hunter education classes scheduled

WOODLAND — Two free youth hunter education classes will be offered this summer at Woodland High School.

The first will be July 11-15 from 3 to 7 p.m. The second class will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 8-12.

Registration is open online via www.wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/huntered. Additional information is available by contacting instructor Mike Ward at safehunter@live.com.

Rafting change begins Tuesday

WHITE SALMON — Boater passage under the Northwestern Lake bridge on the White Salmon River will be closed beginning Tuesday.

PacifiCorp is rebuilding the bridge as part of the removal of Condit Dam. During the work, a temporary take-out will be located at cabin 12 just upstream of the bridge on the Skamania County side. A boat barrier will direct boaters to the location.

The temporary site is not as easy as using the Northwestern Lake boat ramp. It will take multiple rafters to move the boat and the grade is uphill.

For more information, call PacifiCorp at 503-331-4361.

Mount Bachelor open for weekend

BEND — Mount Bachelor will reopen for downhill skiing and snowboarding July 2-4, with intermediate and advanced terrain available from the summit.

The upper elevation of the central Oregon peak still has a deep snowpack. Skiing and snowboarding will be available from the Summit Express chair, accessible via Pine Marten Express out of West Village base area.
