When may I divide my hosta?
Hostas are tough plants. Experts say they need to be in the shade to do well. I have mine in dappled shade — they receive periods of hot sun in the afternoon. As long as I am mindful of watering, they do fine.
Hostas are not a plant that is difficult to move. “The Sunset Garden Book” tells us we can move and divide them and says not a word about when. I move them when I can see them.
I want to be able to keep track of where they are situated, so I don’t plant something on top of one.
I divide or even move them anytime I want to. Again, watch the water and don’t forget them.
