Letter: Use existing power corridors

Different people are affected in different ways by the Bonneville Power Administration’s Interstate 5 Corridor Reinforcement Project.

One group is bound and determined that an eastern route be chosen. Many people in that group ignore the fact that they made a decision to live adjacent to an existing power transmission corridor where lines have existed for 70 years.

Our group — A Better Way for BPA — is determined to make sure the BPA does not waste taxpayer resources and builds this project in the most economical way. That means building on the existing corridor, where there is plenty of room, and there have been no health, safety or security issues.

If you think you’re not affected by this project, you’re wrong. It will cost millions of dollars more to build a new transmission corridor. You will see that increase in your electric bill.

We’re alarmed at the possibility of our property rights being violated and the possible taking of those rights by BPA.

We are equally concerned that everyone who has an electric bill will pay more just so BPA will not build on land the government set aside for the project 70 years ago.
