DENTON, Texas (AP) — North Texas has dismissed leading receiver Darius Carey from the team.

Mean Green coach Dan McCarney says Carey didn’t live up to the standards and expectations that have been set for the program. McCarney, who became UNT’s coach after last season, didn’t elaborate and had no further comment.

Carey led North Texas as a sophomore last season with 38 catches for 524 yards and five touchdowns. As a freshman in 2009, he had 57 catches for 509 yards and four scores.

Before being recruited to North Texas as a receiver or defensive back, Carey was a quarterback for Helen Cox High in New Orleans.
