SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle School Board has voted unanimously Wednesday night to terminate Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson after a financial scandal.
The board voted 6-1 to appoint the school district’s chief academic officer, Susan Enfield, as interim superintendent. The Seattle Times says board members also dismissed Don Kennedy, Goodloe-Johnson’s hand-picked chief financial and operations officer.
The action comes a week after a state audit revealed the district misspent as much as $1.8 million in a program to promote small business contractors.
Goodloe-Johnson is currently out of town, caring for her sick mother, and could not be reached by The Associated Press. She has not been accused of wrongdoing.
