SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego State has a chance to earn a Mountain West Conference championship banner, thanks to BYU’s sudden stumble.

If the No. 9 Aztecs beat Colorado State at home on Saturday night, they will share the MWC regular-season title with No. 3 BYU, provided the Cougars beat lowly Wyoming.

The teams would tie at 14-2. BYU, however, would have the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament thanks to its two 13-point victories against the Aztecs.

Cougars forward Brandon Davies was kicked off the team on Tuesday for breaking the school’s honor code, and BYU was stunned 82-64 by New Mexico on Wednesday night.

A title would be the second in coach Steve Fisher’s 12 seasons at SDSU. The Aztecs have won three conference tourney titles under Fisher, including last year.
