Neighborhood says radio tower affects home prices

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Irate residents in a Medford neighborhood say they’re afraid a new police communications tower could damage home prices in the area, and want the city to instead consider using a fiberglass tower disguised as a tree.

The Medford Mail Tribune reports the neighborhood’s residents converged on city hall on Thursday to complain about the tower. Members of the city council agreed to gather opinions and information from neighbors before voting whether to move the tower or purchase another one.

Residents say they weren’t consulted before the tower’s installation.

The Federal Communications Commission says the city broke two rules: It didn’t register the tower, and it erected it within a half-mile of a historic home.

Police in Medford say the tower is a necessary replacement for the existing tower.
