Robert Morris outlasts Wagner 78-74 in NEC tourney

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) — Velton Jones scored a career-high 29 points to lead Robert Morris past Wagner 78-74 on Thursday night in the Northeast Conference quarterfinals.

The Colonials (17-13) led 69-57 with less than 4 minutes remaining, but the Seahawks went on a 13-3 run to pull within two, 72-70, with 25 seconds to go.

Robert Morris went 6 of 6 from the free-throw line over the final 23 seconds to seal the win.

Coron Williams had 16 points and Lijah Thompson added 13 for the Colonials, who led 38-21 at halftime after shooting 50 percent from the floor (12 of 24), including 6 of 7 from 3-point range (85.7 percent) in the opening half.

Tyler Murray scored 19 points, Orlando Parker added 16 and Chris Martin and Latif Rivers each had 14 for Wagner (13-17).

No. 3 Robert Morris will face No. 2 Quinnipiac (22-8) in the semifinals — a rematch of the 2010 NEC tournament championship game.
