STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut center Stefanie Dolson says she’s ready to play 40 minutes a game if that’s what her team needs from her to win this weekend’s Big East tournament.

The 6-foot-5 freshman has become UConn’s lone option in the post after the transfer of freshman Samarie Walker and recent foot injury that will keep backup center Heather Buck out of the tournament.

Dolson has already had to respond to big expectations, after taking a job last held by Tina Charles, last season’s national player of the year.

Dolson had a slow start to the season, and after the Huskies lone loss to Stanford in January, was told she needed to be in better shape, and spent much more time in the gym and weight room.

Over the team’s final eight games, she has averaged 13.5 points and six rebounds.
