Slow car for Kurt Busch stalls Las Vegas hype

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Kurt Busch has squashed any hope of a showdown with his little brother at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The Busch Brothers came to their home track ranked first and second in the Sprint Cup standings, and many had hoped they’d have a wild ride Sunday in pursuit of a win.

But Kurt Busch says his Dodge has not been very good since it arrived in Las Vegas, and his Penske Racing team is reverting back to old notes to make it competitive. It’s left Busch hoping simply for “a nice, smooth run.”

Kyle Busch goes into Sunday’s race with a three-point lead over Kurt in the standings. Kyle has won before at Las Vegas, in 2008, but Kurt has never been to Victory Lane here.

Kurt says Friday “it stings a little bit” that Kyle is a Las Vegas winner.
