Soldier from. Wash. base dies in Afghanistan

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — The Defense Department says a 22-year-old Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier has died in Afghanistan of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

Spc. Jason M. Weaver of Anaheim, Calif., died Thursday in Kandahar province. He was assigned to the 170th Military Police Company, 504th Military Police Battalion, 42nd Military Police Brigade.

Weaver enlisted in the Army on Jan. 15, 2008, in Los Angeles. His unit deployed to Afghanistan last June.
