OSTRAVA, Czech Republic (AP) — The Czech Republic has moved ahead of Kazakhstan 2-1 in the first round of the Davis Cup on a doubles victory by Tomas Berdych and Lukas Dlouhy.

They defeated Evgeny Korolev and Yuriy Schukin 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (4) Saturday on an indoor hard court at CEZ Arena. If the Czechs win one of Sunday’s two single matches they will advance to the quarterfinals against Argentina. The Argentines eliminated Romania 3-0.

Berdych, ranked No. 7, improved his Davis Cup doubles record to 11-1. He can clinch the best-of-five series by beating Andrey Golubev in the opening singles Sunday. The last match is between Czech Jan Hajek and Mikhail Kukushkin.
