Grambling State defeats Alabama State 74-73

GRAMBLING, La. (AP) — Donald Qualls scored 23 points to lead Grambling State to a 74-73 victory over Alabama State on Saturday, ending the Hornets’ eight-game winning streak.

Lance Feurtado added 17 points for the Tigers (10-20, 7-10 Southwestern Athletic Conference), who ended the regular season with four wins in their final five games.

Alabama State (14-17, 11-7) had not lost since Jan. 31.

The Hornets led 40-38 at halftime, but the Tigers outshot them from the field in the second half, 38.5 percent (10 of 26) to 28.6 percent (8 of 28).

Grambling also hit eight 3-pointers to four for Alabama State.

Qualls was 8 for 8 from the line, but the Tigers were only 20 of 33 for the game (60.6 percent).

Justin Patton added 11 points for Grambling.

Tremayne Moorer scored 22 points, Chris Duncan had 13 and Kenderek Washington added 10 points for Alabama State.
