HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) — Velton Jones hit a fadeaway jumper over two defenders with 6 seconds left to play, lifting Robert Morris over Quinnipiac 64-62 on Sunday in the Northeast Conference semifinals.

For the third straight year, the Colonials (18-13) ended Quinnipiac’s NEC tournament run — defeating the Bobcats 52-50 in last year’s championship game and 75-48 in the 2009 semifinals.

Coron Williams scored 15 points, Russell Johnson and Lijah Thompson finished with 14 apiece and Jones had 13 in a game that yielded 22 lead changes and 12 ties.

The Colonials will face Long Island University (26-5) in the championship game on Wednesday night. Robert Morris and Long Island split the regular-season series.

Deontay Twyman led the Bobcats (22-9) with 14 points and James Johnson added 13. Justin Rutty grabbed 10 rebounds and became the NEC’s all-time leader in rebounds with 1,024 during his career.
