GOSHEN, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State Police and Lane County authorities are investigating the death of a woman found dead on the shoulder of Highway 99 near Goshen, south of Eugene.

State Police say the woman’s husband, 51-year-old Lloyd Shreeve Jr. called 911 early Sunday to report the death of 42-year-old Brenda Sue Shreeve of Creswell. The man told police his wife’s death was accidental — that she tumbled onto the road after the passenger side door of the couple’s pickup truck somehow swung open.

State police Sgt. Alan Gilbert tells the Register-Guard that while the case is unusual, an initial investigation supports the man’s account. Detectives still hope to talk to anyone who saw either Shreeve or his wife late Saturday night or early Sunday.
