SEATTLE, Ore. (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed two Oregon locations as Superfund sites, eligible for cleanup aid.

The EPA says soil and groundwater at the Astoria Marine Construction Co. shipyard are contaminated with petroleum, heavy metals and other pollutants after decades of shipyard activities.

Near Klamath Falls, the agency says, the North Ridge Estates subdivision remains contaminated with asbestos despite years of cleanup. The asbestos came from boards on the walls of military barracks used decades ago.

The EPA will make a final decision after a 60-day comment period.
