PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — Infielder Ruben Tejada is among the 11 players the Mets sent down to their minor league camp in the club’s first round of cuts this spring.

New York announced Friday that Tejada, infielders Zach Lutz and Jordany Valdespin, outfielder Fernando Martinez, and right-handed pitchers Armando Rodriguez, Josh Stinson and Manny Alvarez were optioned to minor league camp.

Right-handers John Lujan and Tobi Stoner, catcher Kai Gronauer and outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis also were reassigned to minor league camp.

Tejada made the 2010 opening day roster while shortstop Jose Reyes remained behind because of a thyroid issue. In 78 games with New York, Tejada batted .213 with 15 RBI and one home run, also seeing time at second base.

The Mets have 45 players in major league camp, including 12 non-roster invitees.
