PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Forceful winds and a rainstorm have swept over parts of Oregon, cutting off power to at least 114,000 people because of downed power lines.

KATU-TV says there are 35 reports of wires down in Clackamas County alone, starting shortly after 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

PGE officials say there are at least 40,000 households without power. Pacific Power officials estimate that 74,000 of the utility’s customers are without power as well.

Wires being blown down have caused a series of small fires. There also are scattered reports of trees falling into houses blocking streets.

Officials with the Oregon Department of Transportation say strong winds and downed trees are causing problems on some state highways in the Willamette Valley. A stretch of Highway 214 is closed and Highway 551 near Hubbard is closed.
