SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon House has voted to prohibit government agencies from disclosing the names of people with permits to carry concealed weapons.

The House approved the measure on a 42-18 vote on Thursday, sending the measure to the Senate.

The bill stems from a dispute between the Medford Mail Tribune and the Jackson County Sheriff after the newspaper filed a public records request for the database of people who have applied to carry concealed weapons.

The state Court of Appeals has ruled that the database is a public record subject to disclosure.
