PASCO, Wash. (AP) — A 31-year-old Washington man charged with killing his former girlfriend will be sent to Eastern State Hospital for a competency evaluation after defense lawyers told a judge they are concerned about their client’s mental health.
Although prosecutors objected Wednesday to the request, Franklin County Superior Court Judge Robert Swisher said he had no choice but to grant it. The Tri-City Herald says that means Gregorio Luna Luna’s April 4 trial date has been stricken.
Luna Luna is charged with first-degree murder in the May 24 stabbing death of 21-year-old Griselda Ocampo Meza.
