LONG BEACH — Clam digging on the Long Beach Peninsula resumes Saturday night, then switches to mornings for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced marine toxin tests show the clams are safe to eat and digs will go on as scheduled.

Digging will be open Saturday and Sunday at Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks, then just at Long Beach and Twin Harbors on Monday and Tuesday.

Low tides will be -0.1 feet at 7:04 p.m. Saturday, -0.5 feet at 7:36 a.m. Sunday. -0.9 feet at 8:23 a.m. Monday and -1.0 feet at 9:12 a.m. Tuesday.

“It gets a little tricky scheduling digs at this time of year, but the goal is to arrange openings during the best clam tides,” said Dan Ayres, coastal shellfish manager. “The split schedule also provides an opportunity for back-to-back digs.”

The agency tentatively is planning another razor clam opener on April 7-9 at Long Beach and Twin Harbors.

Razor clam licenses are valid through March 31.

Diggers may take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 dug regardless of size or condition.
