LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland (AP) — Maria Riesch fought back in her battle for the overall World Cup title with Lindsey Vonn, placing second in the first run of the season’s final slalom on Friday.

Riesch trailed leader Marlies Schild of Austria by 0.49 seconds. Vonn was tied for 14th, with 1.26 to make up on her German rival in the second run.

Vonn started the day 27 points ahead of Riesch, who would collect 80 points by retaining second place. Vonn is on track to score 18.

Schild, who is seeking her seventh World Cup slalom win this season, finished in 43.38 seconds on the rain-softened course on a foggy day.

Tina Maze of Slovenia was third, trailing Schild by 0.70.
