2 US triathletes win Ironman event in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — American triathletes Timothy O’Donnell and Kelly Williamson won the Ironman San Juan event on Saturday.

O’Donnell timed 3 hours, 49 minutes, while Williamson clocked 4:15 in the first Ironman event held in Puerto Rico.

The athletes swam 1.2 miles in a lagoon, biked 56 miles and ran 13.1 miles through historic Old San Juan.

The event was one of 46 worldwide that serve as qualifiers for the world championships in Las Vegas on Sept. 11. Forty of the more than 1,200 athletes who participated Saturday will qualify for the worlds.
