MONROE, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Chris Gregoire is announcing findings from an investigation she ordered after a Washington state correctional officer was killed inside a prison chapel.

The Daily Herald says investigators from the National Institute of Corrections spent a week at Monroe Correctional Complex reviewing policies and procedures, staffing levels and other issues. The governor is discussing the team’s finding on Monday.

Officer Jayme Biendl was killed Jan. 29. Convicted rapist Byron Scherf pleaded not guilty last week to aggravated first-degree murder and could face the death penalty if convicted.
